The Testing-Tree

The Testing-Tree is a poem by Stanley Kunitz. One of my favorite phrases in this poem is:

 "The heart breaks and breaks

and lives by breaking.
It is necessary to go
through dark and deeper dark
and not to turn."

The first time I heard this was in 2017, when the musician Lil Peep have a memorial and his mother talk about this fragment of the poem, she said she read it to her boys until they were around 11 and 13 years old. She explain that the phrase big idea was that you have to go through it. And she also thinks her son live life with that point of view. The part that still stuck with me till this day is the fact that she said that everyone need to get out of the box we have as a humans, go through live and live every second with the idea that you can be a good person, that you can find people and a place lo be loved if you are the true version of yourself and this was a very beautiful thing at that moment for me. Hearing again this and watching the video 5 years later made me realize that I still want to live my life outside my own box and in the journey, find people that will love for who I am. Because "going through dark and deeper dark and not to turn" it's a good thing for me.
